VJ Service and Dedication of New Parish Flagpole
A Service to Commemorate VJ Day (Victory in Japan – 1945) was attended by over 300 people at the Keene Hall on Monday, 14th August. It was organised by the Parish Council in conjunction with the Galleywood branch of the British Legion and the Chelmsford & District branch of the Burma Star Association and conducted by The Reverend Roger Wakeley, Vicar of St Michael and All Angels Church. Present were the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, Christopher Holmes, Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Janette Potter, Council Chairman Ted Hawkins with members of the Parish Council and representatives from the armed services and civic organisations. The Essex Sea Cadets formed a Guard of Honour and the Air Cadets performed escort duties. Standard bearers from the Royal British Legion, Burma Star and Royal Naval and RAF Associations took part in the Service at which the newly erected Parish flagpole was dedicated.
