Pedestrian Crossing

Once every year, the Chelmsford Borough Council relaxes the normally stringent criteria for the siting of pedestrian crossings and grants permission for a ‘Social’ crossing. It was the turn of Galleywood to benefit from this arrangement in 1995. The Crossing has been installed in Watchouse Road providing a long awaited safer access to the shops, just above the junction with Well Lane. Several parking spaces in the lay-by have been lost to a widened pavement with a barrier fence to improve visibility for vehicles approaching down Watchouse Road. The operation required the re-siting of the Post Box to outside the Newsagent’s shop.
