More Price Rises for Commuters

The cost of an annual season ticket from Chelmsford to Liverpool Street is set to rise to £1280. This represents an increase of 10% – just over the national average of 9%. The chairman of C.A.R.T. – Chelmsford  Commuters and Rail Travellers says “We should not be asked to pay anything like the national average until the investment on the line has been completed.” A spokesman for British Rail said they are currently spending £50 million on a re-signalling programme which will ease congestion between Shenfield and Liverpool Street.  Mr Andrew Crocker of Galleywood Road said he was disgusted at the fare increase. “Services have improved since I have been travelling but they are still pretty irregular and infrequent, considering the amount of money we have to pay.”
