“The Parks and Recreation department of the Borough Council has produced a detailed habitat analysis and draft conservation plan for The Common. They commissioned The Essex Naturalists Trust to prepare a comprehensive report which summarises the background history, geology and biology of the site, and flora and fauna of the different habitats, with a five year plan for conservation. The plan also comments on matters of Public Access, Car Parking, Horse Riding and control of litter.
The introduction confirms that the freehold is held by Chelmsford Borough Council and that three registered Commoners have the following rights:
- JW Valentine to graze 2 animals.
- KE Howard to graze 50 animals.
- J Chaplin to graze 30 head of cattle
The survey lists the several hundred plants that exist on The Common including a number of rare species.”
