Love at first sight for Diamond couple

A Galleywood couple who first met when they were nine years old, celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in October. Iris, 78 and Cliff Head, 79 from Watchouse Road fell in love at first sight after meeting through Iris’s brother when they lived in North London. They married in 1944 after Cliff took part in the D-Day landings, dropping into France in a glider to help secure the Pegasus Bridge as part of the 6th Airbourne Division. They moved to Chelmsford in 1970 and Iris worked for 17 years for Sachs and Brendlor and Cliff was a manager in the garage trade. They now have two children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
