Dawn Jacobs of Cannon Leys has been named Midwife of the year by Practical Parenting magazine after saving a mother from a rare life-threatening birth complication. Dawn was attending Maxine Geurts during the birth of her fourth baby at St John's Hospital. Maxine collapsed with a condition known as Amniotic Fluid Embolism and it was the prompt attention of Dawn that saved the life of her and her baby daughter Katie.
Dawn has been a midwife for 13 years and said 'the award was a real surprise and I feel really honoured. At the time 101 things go through your mind, but you have to concentrate on priorities. I am delighted that there has been such a happy outcome from a traumatic situation.'
