1987

Several thousand people enjoyed the annual Carnival and procession in July.  Carnival Queen Lisa Swift, with her deputy Sue Abbott, and Princesses Tania Jeffries and Hayley Swift, were joined by eleven visiting carnival queens. The prize for the best decorated float went to Galleywood Infants' Parents' Association with the Social Club taking first place in the trade category. The tug of war was won, for the sixth year in succession by a team from Brunnings the builders. The chairman of the Carnival Association, Jon Smee, said the occasion was a resounding success. The street collection raised £290.00 which was a record. The final proceeds of the whole event were split between the Community Care Association and the Community Lunch Club.
