Sixty years of Scouting

The 1st Galleywood Scout Group celebrated sixty years of Scouting in Galleywood this year.  Started in 1927, the Group’s headquarters in Jubilee Park, specially built in 1973 and twice extended, houses one of the largest Groups in the district with 130 young people.

A Club for Local Artists

An Art Club has been formed which meets weekly in the Vicarage Hall in Beehive Lane. It caters for all media, including oils, water colour, acrylics and pastels. The club came about largely through the efforts of Ray Fullerton and the enthusiastic response indicates a promising future for this new local activity.

Pensioner Attacked

Police are hunting for two teenagers who robbed a pensioner of £50 after stabbing him with a Stanley knife. The 68 year old man was only slightly injured but suffered severe shock. The pensioner, who is nearly blind,  was on his way to the shops in Watchouse Road when the youths approached and threatened him….

Sun shines on the Carnival

Several thousand people enjoyed the annual Carnival and procession in July.  Carnival Queen Lisa Swift, with her deputy Sue Abbott, and Princesses Tania Jeffries and Hayley Swift, were joined by eleven visiting carnival queens.
